Happy Anorak used to live a charmed life in Italy and met some wonderful people there. On a sunny September day, while waiting in a queue for an inflatable boat ride down the river during an international traditional games festival* (no, really), we got talking to a woman who came to be a very close friend and who ‘adopted’ us into her family. We’ve since been to family occasions, shared meals and even stayed in their home on a return visit to the city we love. On saying our goodbyes as we left to resume a normal life in England, we were presented with this picture, illustrated by Michael and signed by the whole family. The sentiment is beautiful, the drawing charming, the people unforgettable.
*if you ever get a chance to visit Verona during September (a beautifully sunny month) try to coincide with Tocati. It’s a great festival celebrating street games and traditional past times. Just lovely. and when Mexican Fireball is happening, just a little bit dangerous!
